The Open Book Café:

Gardens In Groom

'A tree is a seed that never gave up on its dream to flourish.'
Matshona Dhliwayo

Welcome to The Open Book Café: Book lovers around the world. Share your thoughts on moving passages, and characters in play. What better way than to spend a small sweet slice of a somber Sunday?

Take heart in these trying times,...

'A seed neither fears light nor darkness, but uses both to grow.'
'When life hands you dirt plant seeds.'
Matshona Dhliwayo

Don't stay cooped up indoors. Get out and smell that fresh air - it's good for the soul. Look around and picture how it would look if you had your own little patch of paradise. Become Jane and Johnny appleseed and plant seeds where ever they may flourish. Research your area and where each plant would best grow. And smile to those whom you meet on the way.

'The most important seed you can plant is kindness; the most important crop it yields is joy.'
Matshona Dhliwayo
A gardener is like a prophet looking out on a barren land and saying, ‘I see corn on that hill, and beans beneath the grove, and lavender in the field, and over there some roses by the brick wall.’ Don’t you think that’s what a good friend should be like? A truly good friend is one who can look at our bare lives and see the fruit of what will one day come from deep inside us. ― Craig Froman, Of Secrets, Spiders & and the End of the World

'Gardens and flowers have a way of bringing people together, drawing them from their homes.'
― Clare Ansberry, The Women of Troy Hill: The Back-Fence Virtues of Faith and Friendship

Whether they be forests, orchards, gardens of fruit, vegetables or flowers,... Whether they be cultivated or wild: If you want your seeds of thought to grow, take a walk over to where ever life grows.

'My garden is a pleasant place
Of sun glory and leaf grace.
There is an ancient cherry tree
Where yellow warblers sing to me,
And an old grape arbor, where
A robin builds her nest, and there
Above the lima beans and peas
She croons her little melodies,
Her blue eggs hidden in the green
Fastness of that leafy screen.
Here are striped zinnias that bees
Fly far to visit,; and sweet peas,
Like little butterflies newborn,
And over by the tasselled corn
Are sunflowers and hollyhocks,
And pink and yellow four-o'clocks.
Here are hummingbird that come
To seek the tall delphinium-
Songless bird and scentless flower
Communing in a golden hour.'
― Louise Driscoll, My Garden Is A Pleasant Place

'There was something wonderful about the atmosphere at Stony Cross Park. One could easily imagine it as some magical place set in some far-off land. The surrounding forest was so deep and thick as to be primeval in appearance, while the twelve-acre garden behind the manor seemed too perfect to be real. There were groves, glades, ponds, and fountains. It was a garden of many moods, alternating tranquility with colorful tumult. A disciplined garden, every blade of grass precisely clipped, the corners of the box hedges trimmed to knife blade crispness.
― Lisa Kleypas, Secrets of a Summer Night

A garden to walk in and immensity to dream in--what more could he ask? A few flowers at his feet and above him the stars.' ― Victor Hugo, Les Misérables

The growing season is now - or soon!

Now, get out there and plant seeds, thoughts, and ideas that will bloom.
